Dear Friends,

“TVCA Strings Project – Vail Elementary School”

The Temecula Valley Conservatory of the Arts (TVCA) is starting a 5th grade string program at VES in September and is seeking donations to purchase instruments. VES is a Title I school (many students receive free or reduced lunches) and many families do not have the means to afford an instrument and/or private lessons. TVCA will provide the program and donated instruments at no cost to students. This could be a child’s only chance to experience the joys and benefits of making music.

Studies show that instrumental music studies contribute to success in school, society and life through engagement, cooperation, persistence, and creativity.  Participation in the arts can help to reduce the achievement gap for English Learners and in addition, increase parental involvement and improve school climate. Each one of these elements benefit the local community.

In recent years, instrumental music programs, in all but 2 of the 17 TVUSD elementary schools have been eliminated. In comparison, Murrieta Valley Unified School District has a 5th grade beginning band program in every elementary school.

We are seeking partners in the community - individuals and/or organizations, who would like to support this valuable program by donating funds to go towards the purchase of instruments.  TVCA has an agreement with local music store, Pete's Music to purchase instruments (approved by the instructor) at a reduced price. We will be purchasing 23 violins and 2 cellos- $150 per violin and $500 per cello. For donors who donate the full amount to purchase an instrument, their name will be placed on the instrument.  If you are not able to donate the full amount, we welcome donations in any amount.

TVCA has hired cellist Gina Wingfield to teach the class. Ms. Wingfield recently moved to Temecula from Kentucky and is a highly qualified and experienced music instructor. She taught cello, strings and coached youth orchestras for 43 yrs. in Kentucky and Indiana. She is currently principal cellist with Temecula Valley Symphony and coaches student cellists in their youth symphony.
